Import your Questrade trades into a journal
Export your activities from Questrade, drop the Excel file into NeoTLog, and every buy and sell is matched into round trips, options included, with commissions and statistics.
1. Export your trades
- Log in to Questrade and select the account on the Summary page.
- In the top navigation, go to Reports, then select Go to transaction history.
- Pick the date range — history goes back to 2020 (filtering Activity types to Trades is optional).
- Click Export to Excel, to the right of Date range.
Dates, not times. Questrade writes each trade's date only, so a trade's time of day is not known and it lands at the start of its day.
Every account in one file stays apart. The Account # column keeps a margin account's sale from closing a TFSA's purchase. A TFSA, RRSP or other registered account can't sell short, so there a sale of shares the file never bought is left out and counted, not shown as a short.
Built from the documented format. This importer follows Questrade's export as its documentation and open-source tools describe it, and is tested against that layout — not yet against a file from a NeoTLog user. If yours does not import cleanly, send it to support@neotlog.com and we will fix the importer.
2. What the file looks like
Questrade's Activities export is an Excel file with these columns:
Transaction DateSettlement DateActionSymbolDescriptionQuantityPriceGross AmountCommissionNet AmountCurrencyAccount #Activity TypeAccount Type
Buy and Sell rows are the trades: a sale's Quantity is negative, and so is a charged Commission. REI, a reinvested dividend, is a purchase at its cost; DIS, shares received free (a stock dividend or spin-off), a purchase at no cost; and LIQ, a liquidation, a sale. Options are written Questrade's way (MSFT20Feb26C450.00) and imported as the standard option symbol, 100 shares a contract; EXP, ASN and EX close an option at its expiry, assignment or exercise. Each trade keeps its Currency, CAD or USD.
3. Import it
- Create a free NeoTLog account, or log in.
- Open Import and choose Questrade.
- Check Date format: it is preset to YYYY-MM-DD. If your export writes dates another way, change it first, then drop in the file.
- Set the file timezone if the export does not carry one, then import. Duplicate rows from an overlapping date range are detected, so re-importing a wider export later is safe.
4. What you get
Fills are matched first in, first out into closed round trips, so an entry scaled in over several orders and out over two becomes one trade with one average entry, one average exit and the right quantity. From there:
- Net P&L, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average win and loss, max drawdown
- Equity curve and P&L calendar by day and week
- Commissions and fees, wherever the export carries them
- Notes, tags and strategies per trade, plus chart screenshots saved to your account on Plus and Pro
- AI performance reports, the AI assistant and the screenshot SL/TP reader on Pro
5. What doesn't import
- Cash dividends, interest and deposits
- Transfers, journals and currency conversions
- Fees charged on their own rows
Questions
CAD and USD in one account?
Both import. Each trade keeps the currency Questrade wrote, and the journal converts to your display currency.
Excel or CSV?
Questrade exports Excel; upload it as downloaded. A CSV saved from it imports too.
Do I need a paid plan?
No. Basic is free: 100 trades per calendar year (imported or entered) on one trading account, with no card. Plus adds unlimited imports and accounts, chart screenshots, MAE/MFE and a price chart of each trade; Pro adds AI performance reports, the AI assistant and the screenshot SL/TP reader. You can try Pro free for 14 days, once per account, with no card.
I trade on another platform too.
NeoTLog reads exports from 60+ platforms, and on Plus and Pro several accounts can live in one journal. The guides are listed on the import page.
