Import your CommSec trades into a journal
Download your confirmations from CommSec, drop the CSV into NeoTLog, and every buy and sell is matched into round trips with brokerage, statistics and a P&L calendar.
1. Export your trades
- Log in to CommSec and go to Trade → Manage Orders → Confirmations.
- Select the account, tick Buy and Sell, set From (as early as you need) and To, then click Search.
- Click Download CSV.
Dates, not times. CommSec writes each trade's date only, so a trade's time of day isn't known and it lands at the start of its day in your journal's time zone. A day's confirmations are taken in the order of their numbers.
Market trades only. Shares that came another way — a DRP, an IPO, a transfer from another broker — aren't in the confirmations. CommSec can't sell short, so a sale of such shares is left out and counted in the import message, not shown as a short.
Built from the documented format. This importer follows CommSec's export as its documentation and open-source tools describe it, and is tested against that layout — not yet against a file from a NeoTLog user. If yours does not import cleanly, send it to support@neotlog.com and we will fix the importer.
2. What the file looks like
This is the header row the importer is tested against, with one row of sample data underneath it:
Confirmation Number,Order Number,Trade Date,Buy/ Sell,Security,Units,Average Price ($),
Brokerage (inc GST.),Net Proceeds ($),Settlement Date,
Confirmation Status
150000002,N180000002,3/07/2026,B,XYZ,400,11.240,19.95,4515.95,7/07/2026,
Confirmed
Wrapped here for reading — in the file each row is one line.
One row per confirmation, which is an order at its average price. NeoTLog reads Confirmation Number, Trade Date, Buy/ Sell (B or S), Security, Units, Average Price ($) and Brokerage (inc GST.), the trade's fee. Amounts are in Australian dollars.
3. Import it
- Create a free NeoTLog account, or log in.
- Open Import and choose CommSec.
- Check Date format: it is preset to DD/MM/YYYY. If your export writes dates another way, change it first, then drop in the file.
- Set the file timezone if the export does not carry one, then import. Duplicate rows from an overlapping date range are detected, so re-importing a wider export later is safe.
4. What you get
Fills are matched first in, first out into closed round trips, so an entry scaled in over several orders and out over two becomes one trade with one average entry, one average exit and the right quantity. From there:
- Net P&L, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average win and loss, max drawdown
- Equity curve and P&L calendar by day and week
- Commissions and fees, wherever the export carries them
- Notes, tags and strategies per trade, plus chart screenshots saved to your account on Plus and Pro
- AI performance reports, the AI assistant and the screenshot SL/TP reader on Pro
5. What doesn't import
- The Transactions (cash) CSV
- DRP shares, IPOs, transfers and corporate actions
- CommSec International, which has its own export
Questions
Which file?
Confirmations: Trade → Manage Orders → Confirmations → Download CSV. The Transactions CSV is a cash ledger and isn't read.
How far back can I go?
Set From to the earliest date you need; CommSec documents no limit. Each export covers one account.
Do I need a paid plan?
No. Basic is free: 100 trades per calendar year (imported or entered) on one trading account, with no card. Plus adds unlimited imports and accounts, chart screenshots, MAE/MFE and a price chart of each trade; Pro adds AI performance reports, the AI assistant and the screenshot SL/TP reader. You can try Pro free for 14 days, once per account, with no card.
I trade on another platform too.
NeoTLog reads exports from 60+ platforms, and on Plus and Pro several accounts can live in one journal. The guides are listed on the import page.
